SPORTS ACE ASSAULT CASE

World Cup rugby star Simon Danielli ‘assaulted his wife’ and she ‘trashed his £30,000 Jaguar’

Former Bath, Ulster and Scotland star Simon Danielli and estranged wife Olivia listed in court on same day

RETIRED World Cup rugby ace Simon Danielli has been accused of assaulting his estranged wife.

He's charged with two counts of assault against ex Olivia and a further claim of assault against another man — Michael Browne — on March 11, 2015.

The former rugby international is also accused of causing criminal damage to an iPhone belonging to his former wife.

None of the facts surrounding the allegations were opened in Newtownards Magistrates Court.

The former Bath, Ulster and Scotland star Danielli, 37, of Holywood, Co Down, was not obliged to attend the brief hearing.

Making a joint application, defence solicitor Dermot Bowes and a prosecution lawyer asked for the case to be adjourned for two weeks to October 18.

It's expected a date will then be set for his trial.

While his case appeared at No21 in yesterday's court list, Mrs Danielli appeared at No9 — where she faces a criminal damage rap alleging she damaged or destroyed her husband's Jaguar XF car on August 9, 2015.

Ex-Bath, Borders and Ulster winger Danielli made 32 appearances for Scotland and 78 for Ulster before retiring four years ago due to a back injury.

Former model Olivia, 29, is a daughter of one of Northern Ireland's wealthiest men, property developer Seamus Jennings who in 2012, was said to be worth £67million.

At one stage she'd also been accused of assaulting the 6ft 2in ex-international winger but that rap was dropped by the prosecution.

She was due to go on trial for the criminal damage charge last week but that was adjourned two weeks ago after District Judge Mark Hamill heard about the charges the ex-rugby player now faces.

Earlier yesterday, Judge Hamill had also adjourned her case to October 18, telling the court that, similarly to the case against her husband, "I will fix a date then."
