Theresa May’s war on metropolitan elite has been a long time coming and could transform Britain for the better

Too many in Westminster sneer at their own voters’ views, lives and patriotism as offensive

Our new PM is actually reaching out to ordinary people

THERESA May’s war on our complacent metropolitan elite on behalf of working people has been a long time coming.

Too many in Westminster sneer at their own voters’ views, lives and patriotism as offensive, parochial and backward. Yet they are there to represent us.

No wonder trust in politicians is all but destroyed. The gulf between us seems vast.

Only a few MPs “get” ordinary people. They were mainly the ones who saw Brexit coming.

Others are even now in denial about the June 23 verdict. It was a nightmarish upending of their belief system from which they still hope to wake.

Take the former Tory Attorney General Dominic Grieve, drivelling on about “constitutional principles” demanding that Article 50 faces a Commons vote.

What dishonest bilge. His true intention, as with all diehard Remainers, is to scupper Brexit by delaying Article 50 indefinitely — and to gradually reassert the elite’s Europhile worldview.

Our Prime Minister, luckily, is standing firm against it.

Today she will state her goal, to build “a new united Britain in which the powerful and privileged no longer ignore the interests of the people”.

It’s a remarkable statement of intent.

If her actions match it, she could genuinely transform Britain.

Hunt saboteurs

Hunt's plans to recruit an extra 1,500 trainee doctors a year are entirely rational

JEREMY Hunt could cure cancer and still be monstered by fashionable Lefties.

Yesterday they tore into the Health Secretary for his sensible plan to recruit an extra 1,500 trainee doctors a year.

The NHS is crying out for them.

We currently have to import thousands of foreign doctors, even from Third World countries which can ill afford to lose their skills, while turning down bright young Brits wanting to train as medics.

Of course we must correct that.

But to the blinkered Left it’s “racist” to hire Brits and rely less on foreigners.

Hunt also aims to lock new doctors into NHS work for four years.

Fair enough, since UK taxpayers fund their training at huge expense.

Both plans should be applauded.

What a pity Lefties are too filled with infantile hate to think straight.

Migrants fund

THE Sun has argued that money must be poured into communities under greatest strain from mass immigration. We are delighted it’s going to happen.

The last Labour government had a fund — but it was far too small and intended mainly for helping migrants.

The Tories’ is four times as big and aimed at bolstering services and housing.

We’re still not convinced it’s enough. But it’s a decent start.
