Tech giants forced to create new tech to wipe ‘sickening child abuse content’
FACEBOOK and other tech giants will be forced to create new ways to wipe child abuse content from the web or face massive fines.
Watchdogs will be able to dish out sanctions if more is not done to stop the evil material appearing online.
Ofcom will be able to give an £18million fine or ten per cent of global turnover, depending on which is greater.
There are eight million attempts to access abusive content from Britain every month.
Home Secretary Priti Patel said: “Child sexual abuse is a sickening crime.
“Privacy and security are not mutually exclusive.

“We must all work to ensure criminals are not allowed to run rampant online.
“Technology companies must play their part and take responsibility for keeping our children safe.
“We need both, and we can have both and that is what this amendment delivers.”
The powers will force tech giants to scan encrypted messages to look for hidden abuse material.
