It comes after repeated complaints from neighbours led to him being charged twice for causing distress to neighbours on his quiet suburban road.

Naturist Rob wore just a pair of boots and a workbelt to carry out the work at his house in Eccles, Kent.

He would have ditched the boots and gone completely starkers if he wasn't so afraid of getting a splinter.

After several complaints Rob erected a sign reading: "A naturist is working on this property, please do not take offence."

But despite his polite notice, the bare builder has been branded a criminal and charged with using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress - all for wearing his birthday suit.

The landlord, from nearby Snodland, who has been a naturist since 1999 and insists he is not doing anything wrong, hoped to revamp his property to rent out.

Rob's DIY project garnered the interest of a German film crew who travelled to his one-bed terrace house to record him for the country's version of the One Show - and not all neighbours took offence.

One woman said she had no problems with his behaviour and described Rob as a very pleasant man.

She said: "I've got a husband, sons and grandchildren so maybe that's why it doesn't shock me so much. Plus he's not a bad looking chap."

However not all residents were so accepting and many have continued to make complaints - leading to the nudist's second arrest.

Rob was slapped with an antisocial behaviour warning notice by Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council (TMBC) and made to pay an £80 fine.

He also says he thinks the company advertising his property for let has taken it off its website following the controversy.

Single Rob says he may now have to knock his naturism on the head.

He said: "I think the law says it's not an offence until someone makes a complaint and people know that so they then report me.

"I'm being pessimistic but I think people just want to see trouble.

"People have been accusing me of things which are blatantly untrue."

He added: "Naturism appeals to me due to the sense of freedom and liberation. Also I don't want to get beaten up and no one is going to hit someone who is naked."

He will appear at Sevenoaks Magistrates Court to enter pleas to the charges next Tuesday and again on Tuesday, 25 October.
