two hunting rifles, clothes, water, whiskey and pyjamas were found in his car.

The Heritage Protection Group (HPG), a non-profit crime-fighting organisation said the 55-year-old had pulled his truck off the road, about 3 miles from Mokopane after it overheated.

It said that a white Nissan stopped next to the vehicle and two men came out with one of them shooting Naude at close range.

They apparently stole a pistol and then fled the scene.

Police spokesperson Lt.col. Mamphaswa Seabi said cops found the man's body next to the truck upon arriving at the scene.

He said: "The man was lying with his face up and there was blood on his head and face."

Preliminary investigations revealed a cattle herder in the area heard a gunshot and spotted a white Nissan pickup truck speeding towards Marken.
