The Philadelphia Fire Department first responded to calls of a car fire on the 8500 block of Verree Rd as emergency services worked to put out the blaze.

When the fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered a body in the back of the trunk.

After cops were called to the scene to investigate, it was determined that the body belonged to a man aged in his late teens or early twenties.

According to a Philadelphia Police report, the body was bound by the hands and legs and had suffered a gunshot to the head.

A forensics team believe the man was shot in the moments before the vehicle was set alight.

Police said the vehicle was registered to an address in Philadelphia, but they have not been able to contact the owner.

Authorities confirmed they have opened a homicide investigation and are looking for suspects.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department on their website or via their tips line.
