Woman, 50s, using wheelchair dies after entering water off Dublin pier as Gardai investigate

A WOMAN aged in her 50s has died after entering water off a Dublin pier.

It's believed the woman was a wheelchair user and Gardai say they are investigating all circumstances surrounding the death.

Gardai and the Irish Coast Guard are believed to have rushed to the scene to recover the body and the wheelchair.

The body was recovered from the water at Dun Laoghaire pier at about 2.30pm yesterday.

The woman's body has since been removed to the mortuary at Loughlinstown.

A post-mortem will take place at a later date and a file will also be prepared for the Conorners Court.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances after the body of a female in her 50s was recovered from the water at Dun Laoghaire at 2:30pm on Monday afternoon, 27th June, 2022.

"Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at Loughlinstown where a post-mortem will take place at a later date."

They added: "A file will be prepared for the Coroners Court."

Separately, a driver has died after their car collided with a wall and went on fire.

The fatal crash took place at about 2.45pm on Friday on Athy Road in Stradbally, Co .

The driver and sole occupant of the car was fatally injured as a result of the crash.

Their body was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise where a post-mortem will take place.

Athy Road (R428) was closed this evening as the Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carried out a technical examination.
