POLICE are urgently hunting a couple seen fleeing from a car after an eight-year-old girl was critically injured in a hit-and-run.

The man and woman were caught on CCTV making a dash from the crash scene in Henley Green, Coventry, shortly after 6pm on June 17.

Cops today released footage of the duo, who were travelling in a Toyota Yaris, as they would like to speak to them in connection with the collision.

West Midlands Police urged the pair, or anyone who recognised them, to "do the right thing" and come forward.

The full circumstances of the smash have not been disclosed, but the young girl received advanced trauma care from paramedics before being rushed to A&E with a head injury.

She remains at Birmingham Children's Hospital in a serious condition, officers confirmed today.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We’ve released this footage of two people we need to speak to following a hit-and-run which left a child in a critical condition.

"It happened on Monkswood Crescent, Coventry, on June 17 just after 6pm.

"The eight-year-old girl was hit by a grey Toyota Yaris. She remains in hospital in a critical condition after suffering a head injury.

"A man and woman can be seen in the footage we’ve recovered as part of our investigation.

"We believe they are involved and need to speak to them urgently.

"If you recognise them, saw anything or have any dashcam footage from the area around that time, please contact us.

"If this was you, please do the right thing and get in touch.

"A young girl is seriously injured and we need to understand what happened."
