Almost 1,000 military veterans will start new careers as HGV drivers in a victory for The Sun
ALMOST 1,000 military veterans will start new careers as HGV drivers — in a victory for The Sun.
Our Keep on Trucking campaign called on the Government to plug the shortfall by making it easier for ex-Forces staff to become lorry drivers.
It will now fund 900 places for them to train with specialist charity Veterans Into Logistics.
The £100,000 package from the Office for Veterans’ Affairs will see them qualify in just 25 days.
Director Darren Wright said: “This will allow us to treble the number of Forces leavers we train.
"We’ve managed to change so many lives in the last two years, while helping end the driver shortage.”

It comes on top of £25million of government funds distributed through the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust to veterans charities this year.
