Brit holiday warning as four people drown in popular French tourist spot in just two days

AUTHORITIES have issued a warning after four holidaymakers drowned in a popular tourist spot in France in just two days.

The tragedies involving swimmers took place on the beaches of Alpes-Maritimes.

The latest victim was a 78-year-old man who drowned in Menton, according to the Department of Fire and Rescue Service, reports .

The tragic incident happened on Wednesday when another man in his 70s drowned at Cocoon beach in Nice.

The previous day a 61-year-old drowned in Cannes and another 84-year-old in Vallauris.

The Fire and Rescue Service has intervened in a total of fourteen incidents since June 1 – four of them fatal.

The service urged holidaymakers to be cautious, particularly “the elderly, frail and parents of young children”.

In a statement, it added that “one in four drownings is fatal and the heat peak multiplies the risk of drowning by three”.

Meanwhile, an Irish tourist on the island of Menorca last week.

The unnamed 69-year-old holidaymaker was pulled out of the sea by onlookers who tried to revive him.

Another British tourist has been seriously injured after diving into a Magaluf beach club pool and smashing his head on the bottom.

The 19-year-old was rushed to the hospital after the accident amid fears he could be left paralysed.

Last month a 19-year-old British toddler drowned in a swimming pool near Benidorm.
