AN ALLEGED "boy racer" has ploughed a Mini into a group of nine pedestrians leaving four with serious injuries.

Eyewitnesses claim the black Mini was "swinging from side to side" before smashing the car into a group of people on Friday night.

Bystanders ran over and lifted the car to rescue the injured, according to a witness.

Police have since arrested a man on suspicion of dangerous driving while four people remain seriously hurt at London's Kings Hospital.

Police say they were already at the scene at the Medway City Estate, Medway, Kent, dealing with reports of "nuisance vehicles" when the smash happened at around 10.15pm.

James Seal, who was "literally metres away" from the smash said: "It was unbelievable, the kid was just doing about 50 swinging from side to side across the road and no one knew why.

"It wasn't very busy just everyone minding their own business and just lost control and ploughed into a lot of people.

"The kid, whoever it was, had a girl in the car as well.

"Can't describe how fast people reacted to basically pick up an entire Mini Cooper to get people out."

"After being literally metres away from this, it's such a shame how just a few people can ruin such an awesome passion and hobby."

"Painting everyone with same brush and making everyone out to be 'reckless' or 'boy racers' I've met so many awesome people through cars and like a lot of car enthusiasts respect the roads and people that use them.

"But people like this who was just being stupid and completely out of their comfort zone and trying to show off turned so serious.

"Such a shame and hope everyone has a speedy recovery.

"Just because you have a nice car or a fast car just think about people's families that have to go through all this tonight."

Roughly 20 ambulance staff attended the scene and five people who suffered minor injuries were treated at Medway Maritime Hospital.

Kent Police have this week launched a crackdown on speeding drivers on the estate after concerns from residents about nuisance vehicles.

Local Tasha Bates said: "I knew something would happen now the police still won't do nothing with the little boy racers."

Another local Aimmie Walters said: "How ironic. Just days after Kent Police said they were cracking down on 'boy racers'.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a disturbance involving nuisance vehicles in Sir Thomas Longley Road in Rochester on the evening of Friday 30 September.
