Here’s an easy way of finding out EXACTLY what Facebook knows about YOU
Discover every piece of intelligence the social network has gathered about you with this incredibly simple trick
Who knows you best? You might think it's your Mum, partner or best mate - but you're probably wrong.
Facebook and Google probably know more about you than anyone else, because you've spent the past few years essentially telling them every little thing about your existence.
The social network has a particularly large stake in your life, because most users seem to think nothing of giving Mark Zuckerberg all their photos, letting him know what they're interested in and basically handing over all manner of info which would once have been considered private.
Once you've realised that rather grim fact, you might want to think about finding out what Facebook actually knows about you.
To make this task easier, the website ProPublica has released an , which works within Google's internet browser Chrome. Just follow the link in the previous sentence to install it.
"Facebook has a particularly comprehensive set of dossiers on its more than 2 billion members," the website wrote.
"Every time a Facebook member likes a post, tags a photo, updates their favourite movies in their profile, posts a comment about a politician, or changes their relationship status, Facebook logs it.
"When they browse the Web, Facebook collects information about pages they visit that contain Facebook sharing buttons. When they use Instagram or WhatsApp on their phone, which are both owned by Facebook, they contribute more data to Facebook’s dossier."
Facebook stores at least 98 extremely personal details that companies can pick from when targeting their adverts.
In the interests of journalism, I let Facebook tell me what I was interested in and it told me liked happy hours, gas compressors, Bastille Day, hybrid biology and the Entre Rios province in Argentina.
Spooky. How did it know?
