Labour Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell vows not to kneel before the Queen as he joins the Privy Council
Life-long republican set to join Tory Ministers Sir Oliver Heald QC and Brandon Lewis on her Maj's team of trusted advisers
HARD-LEFT Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell has been invited to join the Privy Council of the Queen’s most trusted advisers.
But the lifelong republican has vowed to snub Her Maj by refusing to kneel during the traditional swearing in ceremony, instead pledging to “shake hands like adults”.
Last night the Palace also announced that the ancient honour would also be given to Tory Ministers Sir Oliver Heald QC and Brandon Lewis.
It came as a top Jeremy Corbyn ally let slip that the hard-left Labour leader still wants to axe the Royal Family.
Union baron Len McCluskey said: “Jeremy Corbyn and I are in a small minority who would do away with the monarchy.
"I would, I am certainly not in favour of the monarchy."
But the Unite the Union boss added: "Do I ever think about it?
"Does it occupy a second of my day? No.
“And I doubt whether it occupies Jeremy’s day so your readers can rest easy.
“Prime Minister Corbyn is not suddenly going to kind of chop the Queen’s head off.”
He also warned that Labour must become “the party that speaks to people who have got decent jobs and live in a nice house.”
