Matthew McConaughey breaks down at White House after revealing horror details about Ulvade shooting victims’ injuries

MATTHEW McConaughey spoke at the White House on Wednesday, breaking down after revealing horror details about the Uvalde shooting victims’ injuries.

McConaughey delivered remarks during a live briefing after recently spending a week in his hometown of Uvalde following the tragic shooting on May 24 that claimed 21 lives.

The actor paid tribute to the young victims of the Uvalde shooting, sharing photos of their artwork as well as their dreams, and posing the question: “How can the loss of these lives matter?”

He shared anecdotes and stories from meeting with parents and family members of the victims.

McConaughey at one point held up the green converse shoes that were used to identify one of the young female victims.

“Many children [in the shooting] were left not only dead but hollow,” McConaughey said.

McConaughey also shared that he met with a cosmetologist who had the task of performing “extensive restoration” due to the “exceptionally large exit wounds of an AR-15 rifle.”

In addition to paying tribute to the victims and sharing artwork and stories, McConaughey called for action, including new gun regulations.

He said that the family members expressed that they “want their children’s dreams to live on … that they want their children’s dreams to continue to accomplish something after they are gone.

“That they want to make their loss of life matter.”

“While we honor and acknowledge the victims, we need to recognize that this time, it seems that something is different. There is a sense that perhaps there is a viable path forward,” he said.

“Uvalde, Texas, is where I was born — Uvalde is where I was taught to revere the power and the capability of the tool that we call a gun.”

“Uvalde is where I learned responsible gun ownership.”

“We need responsible gun ownership,” McConaughey said.

“Responsible gun owners are fed up with the second amendment being abused and hijacked by some deranged individuals,” he said.

“These are reasonable, practical, tactical regulations,” McConaughey said, citing the need for reg flag laws and raised gun ownership ages, adding that the regulations are “not a step back.”

“They’re a step forward for a civil society and for the Second Amendment.”

“Is this a cure all? H*** no,” he said, adding that this “should not be a partisan issue.”

“Can both sides rise above? Can both sides see beyond the political problem at hand?”

“People in power have failed to act.

McConaughey called for a rebrand based on our true values and the need to honor our “immortal obligations.”

“Find a middle ground, the place where most of us Americans live anyway – especially on this issue.”

“We are not as divided as we are being told we are.”
