Holiday warning as Brit tourist ‘raped by taxi driver who took her to remote spot instead of her hotel and attacked her’
A BRITISH tourist was allegedly raped by a taxi driver on the Greek island of Crete after he took her to a remote spot instead of her hotel.
The 43-year-old woman told the cops she was attacked in the resort town of Hersonissos after the man picked her up from a bar in the early hours of May 31.
The woman said the taxi driver raped her in the back of his vehicle after taking her to an isolated area.
She was taken to a local hospital for a medical examination after the attack.
Cops reportedly arrested a 28-year-old man last week based on the woman's description - but the authorities have not released further details.
The man has denied the accusations of rape and claimed the sex was consensual.

According to Greek news outlet , he was released on Friday pending further investigation.
It comes just weeks after a British mum was reportedly raped on the Greek island of Corfu after coming back to her hotel after a night out.
A man who police sources said was a worker at the hotel was arrested after the woman gave police a description of him.
The woman was said to be in a "bad condition" when she went to a police station on the north of the island to report the rape.

A police source said the woman had been on holiday with her boyfriend at the time.
After a night out, the couple came back to the hotel but the woman woke to find the man on top of her, the source said.
Police arrested a 40-year-old man based on her description and brought him to the station, where the tourist identified him as her attacker.
The man has denied the charge of rape and claimed that the woman consented to sex with him.
Figures from the Foreign Office show at least 74 British nationals reported being raped or sexually assaulted in Greece between 2016 and 2018.
Another British tourist was allegedly raped in front of her boyfriend while in the popular Indian holiday destination of Goa.
Her suspected attacker is said to have offered the woman a massage before he assaulted her.
The rape took place near Arambol Beach in Goa, Southern India, an area popular with foreign tourists, police said on Tuesday.

A local 32-year-old man was arrested on Monday over the attack.
He was reportedly part of a group offering illegal massage services near the beach.
