Haunting pics inside the crumbling abandoned prison used to film The Green Mile and visited by Johnny Cash
Today the prison can be used only for exterior film shots because of its condition
THESE are the haunting remains of the once bustling prison used to film Hollywood’s The Green Mile and the site of Johnny Cash's famous performance.
From rusty cell blocks to an eerie execution chamber and an untouched phone system, these spooky snaps were taken by daring photographer Jeff Hagerman when he discovered Tennessee State Penitentiary near Nashville, US.
Other images in the collection highlight how the once used prison’s hospital and dental equipment have been forgotten since it closed its doors to criminals more than twenty-years ago.
Another pic shows a warehouse full of the inmates’ discarded work overalls and cardboard boxes.
The prison, which was built in 1898, has been abandoned since its closure in 1992.
It's been the scene of films most notably The Green Mile as well as others including The Last Castle and Walk the Line.
Singer Johnny Cash performed for inmates in December 1968.
He also recorded a live album called A Concert: Behind Prison Walls in the Tennessee Prison in 1976.
Today the prison can be used only for exterior shots because of its condition.
But parts of the facility are still used by the Department of Correction for storage and as a training site for its Strike Force unit.
