Shoppers furious as council spends £178k on wiggly line pedestrian zone

SHOPPERS are furious that council chiefs have wasted money painting wiggly white lines in a new pedestrianised zone.

It was all part of a £178,000 scheme in Worthing, West Sussex.

The decorative lines alone cost £1,230.

Local Tamara Murray said: “Waste of money and silly design.

“By taking away the safe disabled parking there it will take away business from Worthing.”

Andrea Bristow added: “It looks like a kid has been let loose with a white line machine!

£23,500 of the £178k cost was spent on “technical scheme design” and management fees.

Adur and Worthing Council defended the decision.
