UK Weather – Brits flock to the beach despite cloudy skies ahead of 20C warmer on Jubilee week
TODAY’S cloudy skies and cooler temperatures haven’t stopped Brits flocking to the beach – and sun worshippers will be glad to know better days are on the horizon.
The mercury is set to peak at around 16C today, with London getting the warmest weather.
Despite the disappointing end to spring, people around the country are making the most of their weekends with trips to the coast.
And in better news, it’s set to be warmer for the long Jubilee weekend, with highs of 20C predicted along the south coast on Friday.
Met Office forecasters had predicted yesterday would be the nicest day of this weekend, with the risk of showers rising today, particularly in the north and east.
Monday is set to be cool too as brisk winds barrel in from the north.

Highs in the low teens are expected in many areas during the day.
In the early hours of the morning, temperatures will be in the “low single figures”, the BBC predicts.
However, as the bank holiday draws closer, the situation is set to improve.
The Met Office’s deputy chief meteorologist Chris Bulmer said: “Cooler and more unsettled conditions will be quite widely established by Monday.
“After a cool start to the week, temperatures are expected to return back to around average through the week.
“What we’re keeping an eye on for the latter part of the week is how far north this plume of warm air comes.
“This brings the potential for outbreaks of heavy rain in places.
“There’s still a lot to be determined for the Jubilee weekend forecast.
“On balance, it looks like after a showery start, though still fine in places, high pressure will attempt to build from the west bringing more settled and drier weather, at least for some.”
Forecasters have already warned that there’s huge uncertainty over the temperature for next weekend as a “loose cannon” weather system moves in.
It’s feared that a low pressure system from the Azores could bring plenty of cold and wet weather.
Aidan McGivern of the Met Office said the system is “going to meander about fairly randomly”, adding: “That makes its behaviour difficult to predict.”

However, in the service’s most recent forecasts, much warmer weather is being predicted for Friday afternoon.
It says highs of 19C are likely – while BBC Weather goes one better, predicting 20C sunshine, with 19C highs on both Saturday and Sunday.
