Over 1,300 Draculas gather eerie ruins to win world record

A WORLD record for counting Draculas saw 1,369 “vampires” come together.

They braved daylight to gather at the ruins that inspired Bram Stoker’s novel 125 years ago.

Wannabes had to wear black, including a cape or collared overcoat

To qualify as undead at Whitby Abbey, North Yorks, wannabes had to wear black, including a cape or collared overcoat — with fangs on their top teeth.

The fangtastic effort smashed the previous best of 1,039 at Kings Dominion in Virginia, US, in 2011.

Mark Williamson, English Heritage’s site manager for the abbey, said: “We’re so excited to have broken the record.

“We get visitors from all over the world. Just like Stoker, they all fall in love with the abbey’s incredible atmosphere.”

Irish author Stoker’s novel was inspired by his 1890 visit to the 11th-century abbey and church often surrounded by bats.
