“He shot and killed horrifically and incomprehensibly 14 students and killed a teacher,” said Abbott in an initial press conference earlier in the day.

It was later revealed that a total of 21 people were killed, including 19 children and two teachers.

Also, 13 children are being treated at Uvalde Memorial along with a 45-year-old man who suffered a “graze,” said Abbott.

The suspect also allegedly shot his grandmother before entering the school.

Two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the governor said.

University Health in San Antonio said it had two patients from the incident - a 66-year-old woman and a 10-year-old-girl - both listed in critical condition.

Another 10-year-old girl is listed in good condition and a 9-year-old girl is in fair condition.

"We don't have a condition to release at this time," a statement from the hospital told the outlet.

Ramos was reportedly shot dead in a stand-off with Texas officials responding to calls of an active shooter in Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.

Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez, speaking to CNN, said that Ramos, who was from North Dakota and moved to Uvalde, purchased the two weapons used in the attack on his 18th birthday from a dealer in the Uvalde area.

The shooting is the worst elementary school massacre since Sandy Hook in 2012.
