What happened at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas?

On May 24, 2022, the citizens of Uvalde, Texas were alerted to a shooting that was taking place at Robb Elementary School.

18-year-old Salvador Ramos intruded upon the school and fatally shot 19 students and two teachers.

An additional 17 people were injured from the horrific ordeal but survived.

State governor Greg Abbott said in a press conference: "When parents drop their kids off at school, they have every expectation to know that they're going to be able to pick their child up when that school day ends. And there are families who are in mourning right now.

"The state of Texas is in mourning with them for the reality that these parents are not going to be able to pick up their children."

Joe Biden addressed the nation and said: "I am sick and tired of it. We have to act and don't tell me we can't have an impact on this carnage.

"What struck me is that these kinds of mass shootings rarely happen anywhere else in the world. Why?"

Due to the unhurried response of the Uvalde Police Department, the shooting sparked outrage among parents and local residents.

On October 7, 2022, Uvalde suspended its entire police department.

An investigation into the UPD's activities was launched because of "recent developments that have uncovered additional concerns with department operations."

In relation to the tragic incident at Robb Elementary, Uvalde police chief Pete Arredondo was fired.

State trooper Juan Maldonado was also terminated because of his slow response to the shooting.

Who was the Robb Elementary School shooter?

During the press conference, Abbott revealed that the shooter was an 18-year-old male.

The suspect was later identified as Salvador Ramos and was killed by responding law enforcement officers.

Before he went on his rampage at Robb Elementary, Ramos fatally shot his own grandmother.

In a report from the , the killer showed warning signs that were looked over by those around him and "turned down a dark path" after dropping out of high school.

"The attacker began to demonstrate an interest in gore and violent sex, watching and sometimes sharing gruesome videos and images of suicides, beheadings, accidents, and the like, as well as sending unexpected explicit messages to others online."
