How long do bumble bees live?

The lifespan of a bumble bee depends on its species, on its environment and on its role in the colony.

The bumble bee queen can live up to a year because its slow metabolism allows it to live longer.

Only the queen can hibernate and survive till spring and then build a new colony as soon as the new season starts.

The worker bumble bees on the other hand only live from two to six weeks.

It depends on the role that they have.

They can either care for the nest or else they can go out collecting nectar and pollen.

Lastly, male bumble bees only live up to two weeks.

Once they are born, they leave the nest and never return and their only mission before they die is to mate with other young female bees to have new queen bees.

Where do bumble bees live?

Some bees live underground and others live above.

Those who live underground, most probably will live in rodent holes, under sheds or maybe a compost heap.
