At least 14 killed as crowded bus slips off mountain road in Nepal

A crowded bus has slipped off a mountain in Nepal, leaving at least 14 people killed and nine more injured.

Officials said the bus was carrying passengers both inside and on the roof.

It slipped off the mountain road near Lapang Phedi village and rolled about 300 meters before stopping on the banks of a river, Associated Press has reported.

Dinesh Yadav, a police officer at the scene, told: "We have recovered 14 bodies in total including ten males and four females so far. A rescue operation is under way. I am worried that the death toll may rise."

Rescuers and a helicopter are working to rescue the injured.
