The cash-guzzling woke NHS blob is almost beyond saving – Sajid Javid must fix it now

BROKEN NHS

IF Sajid Javid is serious about reversing the explosion of pointless health service managers he need only peruse the current NHS “diversity and inclusion” vacancies.

These non-jobs, at £40,000 a year and up, are dished out like sweets.

Scrap the lot. Patients wouldn’t notice — until that money was invested instead in more doctors and nurses.

Staggeringly, though, the managerial fatcats at the Health Department and NHS England have doubled in two Covid-blighted years.

Nurses are up a mere seven per cent.

For decades the NHS has spent billions on box-ticking target checkers at the expense of hands-on clinical staff.

Why can’t any Health Secretary get a grip on it? Where is the reform it needs?

The entire system looks broken.

Waiting lists are simply hideous.

As for seeing a GP . . . it’ll be over Zoom in three weeks if you’re lucky.

If the Health and Social Care levy, funded by the Tories’ insane April tax rise, is merely splurged on more clipboard-wielders the Government will never be forgiven.

Don’t let that happen, Saj.

SHIRK ETHIC

IS it any wonder Britain’s productivity is so dismally low?

Our workers are the most reluctant on the planet to return to the office after their two-year work-from-home jolly. More than half would rather quit.

A minority can home-work effectively. Others just pretend to do so. The result is a disaster for the economy — not least for businesses relying on commuters.

Phones tycoon John Caudwell attacks a “growing sense of entitlement” by those who believe jobs “exist for their own convenience rather than to serve customers”. He’s right.

But at least private firms can decide whether it’s viable for them and lay the law down if need be.

Many in the public sector seem intent on doing as little as humanly possible, knowing their mighty unions and even their bosses will protect their jobs-for-life and gold-plated civil service pensions.

Whitehall idlers are utterly failing the public. Will anyone stand up to them?

JAKE’S GOAL

WHAT a brave lad Jake Daniels is.

The 17-year-old Blackpool striker knows he’ll get homophobic abuse from a neanderthal hardcore.

But he’ll endure it to live as he really is and, if he can, blaze a trail for other gay players.

In 2020 a gay Premier League star anonymously said British football just wasn’t ready for him to come out. We hope Jake proves the sport is changing.

Its chiefs must help by ensuring there is zero tolerance for homophobia, as with racism.

If one of the last bastions of this prejudice can be overcome, what a win it will be.
