Who was Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan?
Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan was born on September 7, 1948, in Abu Dhabi.
He is the eldest son of founding father and driving force behind the United Arab Emirates, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The Sandhurst graduate, Khalifa, served as the president from 2004, taking over from his late father.
While he was the 16th leader of Abu Dhabi, he was only the second president of the UAE and was re-elected for a second term in 2009.

He has eight children with his wife Shamsa bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, they are: Sultan, Mohammed, Shamma, Salama, Osha, Sheikha, Lateefa and Mouza.
Sheikh Khalifa is thought to be worth around $120million.
How did Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan die?
News agency WAM reported that a statement announcing the president's death was released on May 13, 2022.
It read: "The Ministry of Presidential Affairs condoles the people of the UAE, the Arab and Islamic nation and the world over the demise of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the UAE."
Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, 73, had been ill for several years and suffered a stroke in 2014.
His brother, Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, is seen as the accepted day-to-day ruler as Khalifa had stepped back from these affairs.

An official cause of death and the Sheikh's successor has not yet been announced.
The country will now enter 40 days of mourning, which includes a three-day ban from work.
