Ducks must be fed wholemeal or granary bread and NOT white, quackers council insists
A QUACKERS council is insisting a park’s ducks are fed wholemeal or granary bread as they turn their beaks up at white.
Park officials say their clean-eating ducks should ideally be fed seed or maize.
And signs say “if you must use bread please make sure it is the healthier varieties”.
They compare loaves to “junk food that tastes good but has no nutritional value”.
Support officer Lauren Baker, 30, who regularly visits Priory Park in Reigate, Surrey, with son Ted, three, called the signs “a bit pretentious”.
She said: “It doesn’t surprise me as it’s Reigate.

“There’s a cost of living crisis, families are struggling to put bread on the table and they’re asking people to only feed ducks certain bread.
“Are they going to turn them away or ban them from feeding the ducks?”

Fitness coach Stuart Broughton, 45, said: “I’m not going to feel guilty about feeding them a bit of bread. It’s impossible to police anyway.”
Reigate and Banstead council said: “RSPB guidance suggests that bread in general, but particularly white bread, has little nutritional value for ducks and can result in them failing to eat a balanced diet, which can make them less healthy.”
