A BRUTE who beat his wife was spared jail and kept his job answering a domestic abuse hotline.
Drunk David Bird left Nichola “black and blue” after going berserk while watching Euro 2016 on TV.
But as it was his first offence he was given a £100 fine and told to do community work.
He also kept his council job answering an emergency line for domestic abuse victims.
Nichola, 42, now divorced from Bird and receiving support as a victim of domestic abuse, said: “There is no justice. How can someone do that and just receive a fine and keep their job?
“He deals with vulnerable people who have been domestically abused. It is a joke.”
She told how her husband of 18 months flipped after she walked in on him watching Wales’s 2-0 semi-final defeat to Portugal.
The thug threw cider in her face, dragged her around the garden, put his hands on her throat and head-butted her.
She said: “I thought he was going to kill me.”
Bird, 55, of Hull, pleaded guilty to assault by beating at the city magistrates’ court.
Hull city council said: “The matter is being appropriately handled in accordance with the council’s internal procedures.”
