Making A Murderer’s Steven Avery is ENGAGED to woman ‘he met for the first time one week ago’

Convict and Netflix star Steven Avery asked Las Vegas legal secretary Lynn Hartman to marry him after she visited him in Wisconsin’s Waupun Correctional Institute

CONVICT Steven Avery and star of Netflix hit series Making A Murderer is to get hitched to a woman he only met for the first time just a week ago.

The 53-year-old popped the question to Las Vegas legal secretary Lynn Hartman after forming an intimate relationship over the phone and sending each other letters.

The pair finally met up for the first time last week when she visited him at Waupun Correctional Institute, in Wisconsin, US - and it looks like he just took his chances.

Avery told : “She’s going to be my future wife, we’ll be laughing forever.

“I’m happy, she treats me decent, she loves me, she's kind of spoiling me right now. I just want to be happy and enjoy my life, I think I did enough time.”

In a statement from Lynn posted on the Steven Avery Project Facebook page, she said: "I am very happy to announce that Steven Avery asked me to marry him today, and I accepted. It has been a difficult road getting to this point in our lives but we are very happy.

"Despite all obstacles, and Steven's wrongful conviction and incarceration, we plan to be married shortly after he is released."

Later a post on behalf of Avery read: "There have been some misunderstandings about Lynn and her intentions, he wants to remind you all that her intentions are true and her and Steven are very much in love and this isn't going to change anytime soon.

“Steven asks that you respect his future wife and respect their relationship, rumours that are made about their relationship are false and if it isn't coming from Steven directly it's not true.

“Always remember this man has wrongfully served 30 years in prison, even if you don't agree 100 per cent with his decisions you have to agree that he deserves to be happy.”

Avery, who has been married once and engaged twice before, handed a life sentence for murdering photographer Teresa Halbach in 2007.

He was previously jailed for 18 years for sexual assault, but was cleared in 2003 after new DNA tests exonerated him.

Avery has always protested his innocence for both crimes but was sentenced to life without parole.

His nephew Brendan Dassey, who was also found guilty of murder, is due to be released soon after his conviction was quashed.
