THE president left people puzzled on Thursday when he appeared to turn to shake someone's hand – despite nobody being on stage beside him.

Joe Biden, 79, had finished a speech on the nation’s supply chain crisis when the gaffe occurred, leading to an awkward couple of seconds.

In a now-viral clip of the speech in Greensboro, North Carolina, the president ended with “God bless you all,” before turning to his right and motioning toward the empty space behind him.

Biden then put his hand out and appeared to go for a handshake. It could be possible that he didn’t know he was alone at the podium.

He then looked around the stage as music played in the background.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz, 51, shared a clip of the speech captioning it with the double eyes emoji.

Others took the opportunity to once again question the president’s mental state.

“Where are the White House and Biden family handlers whose job it is to make him look good?” wrote former vice chairwoman of the California Republican Party

“This is truly bizarre, unless they WANT him to look like a dementia patient," she wrote.

, who is running for Congress in Tennessee’s Republican Primary, called Biden “unfit to be President. Period.”

Biden was in Greensboro to visit North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in an effort to put pressure on Congress to approve the Bipartisan Innovation Act to increase funding for domestic production of semiconductors.

“What people don’t know is that 70 percent of the increase in inflation was the consequence of Putin’s price hike," said the president, speaking about the Russian leader.

In another odd twist, Biden claimed that he used to be a “full professor” at the University of Pennsylvania.

“I’ve been at a lot of university campuses, matter of fact for four years, I was a full professor at the University of Pennsylvania.”

The president reportedly had a vague role at the institution, earning nearly $1million. He was named Benjamin Franklin Presidential Practice Professor, the first person to hold the role, in 2017.

Biden did not teach regular classes but made multiple public appearances on campus, according

BIRD POOP INCIDENT

The incident comes days after the president was pooped on by a bird during a speech on infrastructure in Iowa on Tuesday.

"It's about being made in America," Biden was filmed saying in the moments prior to the poo.

Biden was discussing infrastructure and inflation as part of a visit to POET Bioprocessing.

While he didn't seem to notice the splatter on his jacket, many folks did.

"Even the Birds know this guy is full of [poop emoji]," one person tweeted.

"Biden wasn't the only one spouting poop today," commented another Twitter user.

There was no shortage of jokes and trolling after the incident, with even the bird responsible chiming in.

"Sorry about the poop," tweeted @PoopBiden.

Biden landed in Des Moines earlier in the day ahead of his speech, where EPA Administrator Michael S Regan was also scheduled to appear.

The president addressed the surge in fuel prices Americans are experiencing around the country.

"Environmental Protection Agency is planning to issue an emergency waiver to allow E15 gasoline — gasoline that uses more ethanol from home-grown crops — to be sold across the U.S. this summer in order to increase fuel supply and lower prices," a tweet from the POTUS account read.
