The lawsuit being taken against Jim Carrey by Cathriona White's ex-husband is sure to add to her family's heartbreak and devastation, a friend said today.
The 30-year-old Irish woman's body was found in her Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles apartment on September 28 last after she overdosed on prescription drugs.
Her ex husband, Mark Burton has now filed a lawsuit against the 54-year-old actor claiming that he illegally supplied the drugs to his girlfriend, something that is strenuously denied by Mr Carrey.
Today Catriona's family in her home town of Cappawhite in Co Tipperary said they did not wish to speak to the media.
However a family friend said that they are devastated by Cathriona's death and have just managed to get through last week when she would have celebrated her 31st birthday on September 14.
The friend said: "They are now trying to cope with her first anniversary coming up on the 28th and something like this is not helping.
"They had hoped that the attention and the speculation which arose from Cathriona's tragic death because of her relationship with Jim Carrey would have lessened, particularly now with this big day looming.
"I have no doubt but that the continuing focus this court action by a man they didn't even know she had married is certain to add to their heartbreak and devastation."
In a statement Carrey who attended Cathriona's funeral and carried her coffin with family members, said: "I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved.
"Cat's troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone's control.
"I really hope that someday soon people will strop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace."
