Theresa May denies she is like Gordon Brown despite dithering over Hinkley Point and Heathrow decisions
PM has slapped down claims her honeymoon is over and says she did not know people were comparing her to the former Labour leader
THERESA MAY was today forced to deny she’s another Gordon Brown because of dithering over Heathrow and Hinkley Point.
The PM slapped down claims her premiership honeymoon was over and insisted she would take a decision on airport expansion next month.
Defending her methodical approach she said: “On Hinkley, I was very clear that I wanted to look at the details and then take a decision.
“I said a decision would be taken in September, it has been taken in September.”
She added: “On Heathrow the Government has consistently said that we would be operating on the basis of looking at the evidence and then taking a decision on that.
“That’s exactly what we are going to be doing.”
Told Westminster watchers were already comparing her with the former Labour leader, she said: “I missed that.”
Gordon Brown like Mrs May moved into No10 without a General Election – succeeding Tony Blair.
He ducked an early election just before the credit crisis when he was ahead in the polls.
She insisted she had a mandate from the electorate because she was “continuing the manifesto that the Conservative government was elected on in May 2015”.
