Logan Mwangi’s ‘murderer’ mum says she was an ‘overprotective’ mother and ‘loved the bones’ of her ‘perfect baby’

A MUM accused of killing her five-year-old son today described herself as an “overprotective” mother.

Angharad Williamson, 31, told a murder trial jury she “loved the bones” of her “perfect baby” Logan Mwangi, who was found dead in a river 400 yards from the family home.

The youngster had suffered catastrophic injuries similar to those seen in victims of high-speed car crashes or falls from height, the court heard.

He had dozens of bruises and grazes across his body, his liver and small bowel had been torn, and he had sustained “very traumatic” brain damage.

Williamson, stepdad John Cole, 40, and a 14-year-old boy who cannot be named are accusing of his killing and then covering up his death.

And Williamson, who denies murder, today told Cardiff Crown Court she took photos of him every day.

“I took pictures of him sneezing, of him coughing, I was so overjoyed by Logan,” she said.

“I loved the bones of that boy.”

When asked about her relationship with Logan, she said: “It was beautiful.

“I’m quite a needy, emotional person and Logan was very cuddly, so is my mum.

“We were very close. Logan was my little sidekick. We did everything together, he was such beautiful a happy little boy.”

She went on to describe the child as “so clever”, adding that she was “so proud” and regularly showed him off on Facebook.

But when probed about her concerns for her son, Williamson said: “I was a bit overprotective of him, I always have been. He’s my baby.”

The court earlier heard regular gym-goer Cole, who gave his size as 6ft 4in and 15 stone, deny murdering 3ft 5in, three stone Logan.

He told a jury: “I never touched him” as he was questioned by prosecuting lawyers.

“I woke up to Logan being dead and it didn’t make sense,” he added.

Logan suffered 56 external injuries to his body as well as trauma to the brain, liver and small intestine.

He failed to call an ambulance, but insisted it was because he “panicking”.

When prosecutor Caroline Rees QC asked him why he decided to dump a child’s body, he replied: “I don’t know, I wasn’t thinking clearly.”

‘MURDER’

Logan was found dead in the River Ogmore in Sarn, Bridgend, on July 31 last year.

Medical experts said Logan’s injuries were such that they were compared to a “fall from a great height” or a “high velocity road traffic collision”.

Cole and the teenager are accused of moving Logan’s body to the river while Williamson allegedly tried to remove incriminating evidence from the house and wash bloodstained bedsheets.

Williamson denies any involvement in her son’s death saying she slept the whole night through and woke to find him missing.

Williamson and the youth deny murder and perverting the course of justice.

Cole denies murder but admits perverting the course of justice.

Williamson and Cole also deny causing or allowing the death of a child.

The trial, in front of Mrs Justice Jefford, continues.
