Wife of Tory MP in drugs & sex scandal ‘standing by him’ but is ‘finding it hard’ – as he’s admitted to hospital

THE wife of a Tory MP embroiled in a drugs and sex scandal will be standing by him – but is “finding it hard” as he’s admitted to hospital for “severe shock”, it’s reported.

David Warburton, 56, has been taken into psychiatric care after photos emerged of him sitting at a table alongside what appears to be lines of cocaine.

It’s alleged the politician, who represents Somerset and Frome, snorted “line after line” of the class A before stripping naked and groping a woman’s breasts.

He was suspended by the Conservative party at the weekend and faces a parliamentary investigation after being accused of inappropriately touching three women.

It was revealed today he’s been taken to hospital suffering from shock and stress.

But Harriet, his wife of 20 years, is said to be fully backing her husband.

Mr Warburton denies all wrongdoing, and has reportedly told friends he’s been through “sheer hell”.

Asked if Mrs Warburton would stand by her man, her brother Jonathan Baker-Bates : “Absolutely, they’re standing by each other at the moment.

“They’ve always been a very happy couple for as long as I’ve known them.”

He said his sister is “obviously affected herself” and “finding it hard”.

“Her line is as his – he’s not done anything wrong and these things have explanations,” he added.

Mr Warburton’s father-in-law said he initially believed the headlines were an “April Fool’s joke”.

The Warburtons live with their teenage children in a six-bed mansion in Baltonsborough, near Glastonbury, which they bought last year for £1.3million.

In a comment today, Mrs Warburton – who works as her husband’s publicly-funded PA and comms officer – said: “David has today been admitted to a psychiatric hospital for severe shock and stress.

“No further comment to make.”

Mr Baker-Bates said his brother-in-law is a “nice guy” and suggested the allegations may be part of a “fix-up”.

‘THOUGHT IT WAS APRIL FOOLS’

It follows claims the MP may have been the victim of a sting by a foreign power because the allegations were produced with photographic and video evidence.

“It does seem to have a lot of ingredients of something,” he said.

The case has been referred to MI6 out of an abundance of caution, although there’s no suggestion of a malign influence from another government, reports.

One complainant alleges she repeatedly told Mr Warburton she didn’t want to have sex with him, but claims he ground his body against hers and groped her breasts as he climbed into her bed.

He later reportedly said the sum paid for the cocaine he is said to have taken that night was not expensive — using the slang “spenny”.

MP HOSPITALISED

The woman had met the MP through work, it’s understood.

She is yet to make any complaint to the police or any other investigating power.

Another woman also accused him of unwanted sexual comments and sexual touching, and say that he kept coke at his London home.

They spoke to the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme.

Meanwhile, it’s emerged that Tory whips were warned about Mr Warburton’s behaviour weeks ago.

reports that one of his colleagues heard concerns about drinking and a “pattern of behaviour” towards young female staff.

They flagged concerns about Warburton’s “untoward behaviour” to Tory whips and urged them to “keep an eye on him”, it’s alleged.

Mr Warburton said last night: “I have enormous amounts of defence, but unfortunately the way that things work means that doesn’t come out first.

“I have heard nothing whatsoever from the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme. I’m sorry, I can’t comment any further.”
