DOGS' SQUALOR HELL

Puppy farm family earn £100K ‘selling dying puppies from windowless sheds’

A court heard many of the pets died at their new homes with one new owner saying her puppy was 'vomiting worms'

A MUM and her two daughters made £100,000 selling sick and dying puppies from a squalid dog farm, a court heard.

Teresa Wade, 57, was said to have reared the cockapoo-type breeds in cages inside windowless sheds.

She and daughters Charlene Smith and Danielle Wade, both 29, allegedly sold at least 1,900 of the dogs on the Pets4Homes website for up to £750 each using houses as a front.

But jurors heard many of the pets died when their new owners got them home after being plagued by health problems and fleas.

One customer reported her puppy was “vomiting worms”, Basildon crown court was told.

Prosecutor Hazel Stevens said: “Given these figures it is said this enterprise, if licensed, would have been one of the UK’s largest breeding establishments.”

The RSPCA raided Teresa Wade’s farm in Aveley, Essex, in 2014 after a series of complaints.

They were said to have found 76 dogs in grim conditions, including one animal “almost rotting”.

One cage included 14 puppies without access to food or water, jurors were told.

It is not known how many dogs were sold, but the court heard Teresa took 1,900 for first vaccinations in 2013 and 2014.

The animals were said to have been moved to properties in Broxbourne, Herts, and Barking and Dagenham, East London, to be sold on.

The three women deny fraud charges.

The trial continues.
