Several witnesses claimed some of the children were armed with knives and baseball bats.

Shocking footage reportedly shows scenes of violence from a mass brawl involving up to 100 youths.

Images and video posted online show a major response, with dozens of police officers, vehicles and a helicopter overhead.

Witnesses claimed teenage boys, some wearing school uniforms, were involved in an altercation with pupils from a rival school.

One witness told the Evening Standard the scenes were like "Iraq".

A video posted online shows one black youth being attacked on the ground by a number of young men amid hysterical screaming.

One witness told the Standard: "My partner was in the park with our dog and saw a black boy with blood all over, even coming out of his eye and nose but police were then with him.

"The helicopter was up for nearly two hours."

Local councillor Danny Hackett said he was "concerned" by the reports of violence.
