Six South Allegheny Middle School students rushed to hospital after eating drug-laced edibles

SIX middle school students have been rushed to the hospital after consuming drug-laced edibles.

First responders rushed to South Allegheny Middle School in McKeesport, , Thursday morning after reports of edibles on campus.

Lisa Duval, the school's superintendent, confirmed to that six students were transported to the hospital as a precaution.

School officials said the students became extremely sick within several minutes of one another.

Duval said staff first alerted the school nurse of the students' conditions then decided to call medics to the location.

Officials said both the middle and high schools have been placed on lockdown to keep hallways clear for medics.

"Today, at approximately 8:30 a.m., several middle school students experienced severe sickness within minutes of each other," said a posted on the district's website.

"Ambulances were called to the campus to triage the students because drug-laced edibles were ingested, causing sickness in those students."

The school district said all the affected students' families had been notified, and all the middle schoolers' bookbags and belongings were searched for drug paraphernalia.
