Woman, 63, ‘raped in park’ by unknown man as cops hunt suspect and release description

A WOMAN has been raped in a park by an unknown man.

The victim, 63, was attacked in daylight hours in the busy park, which is used by dog walkers, joggers and cyclists.

Police called on park users to help with enquiries

Police were called to reports of the woman in a distressed state on Monday at the Rising Sun Park, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

Her attacker is described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s.

He had a local North East accent, medium build and between 5ft 6ins to 5ft 10ins.

He was also said to be clean shaven and was possibly wearing a dark or grey hoody and bottoms.

Detective Chief Inspector Shelley Hudson said: “I want to praise the bravery of the victim at this extremely difficult time.

“This incident happened in daylight hours in a busy park used regularly by dog walkers, cyclists, joggers and people enjoying the scenery.

“The victim has now courageously been able to provide us with a description and we are hoping that this, along with local knowledge, someone may have a vital piece of information that could help us identify the man responsible.

“Incidents of this nature are rare in this area, but when the do occur we are committed to using every tactic at our disposal to bring offenders to justice.”
