Who was Max Mosley?

Max Mosley was born into a family of wealthy Hitler sympathisers in 1940.

His dad, Sir Oswald Mosley, was head of the British Union of Fascists (BUF).

Sam Claflin memorably portrayed him in Peaky Blinders.

Adolf Hitler was standing by as witness.

Max was born six years later, joining two older half-brothers from his mum's first marriage to Bryan Guinness, an heir to the brewing fortune.

Max was , once being arrested for threatening behaviour at a rally of his father's.

He later admitted a leaflet with his name on it warning against "coloured immigrants" was "probably racist".

He also took up an interest in motorsports and became president of Formula One.

His personal life would go on to make the most scandalous headlines of all.

He was filmed partaking in a violent "sadomasochistic" orgy with sex workers over the course of five hours.

But Mosley sued the News of the World for running reports of the orgy, and a judge ruled in his favour that there was no evidence of Nazism in the sex tape.

He decided that although the young women “victims” wore striped pyjamas they were not necessarily Nazi-related clothes.

This led Mosley to pump millions of pounds into anti-press campaigns as part of his crusade against newspapers.

He bankrolled a new press regulator, Impress, and launched a bid to gag the press from ever speaking about his orgy.

What was Max Mosley's cause of death?

Mosley died at home in Chelsea on May 24, 2021.

It was believed that the 81-year-old had succumbed to cancer.

But later, evidence of a gunshot wound was revealed.

Cops said they found him after a note was discovered on his bedroom door that said, "Do not enter, call the police".

He had learned he would only live for a few more weeks.

His inoperable B-cell lymphoma would leave him with chronic bladder and bowel pain during whatever time he had left, Westminster Coroner's Court heard on March 29, 2022.

The coroner said: “It was obvious he had used the shotgun to himself and endured a life-ending injury.

"It’s clear he had injuries not compatible with life.”

Dr Christopher McNamara, a haematologist, told the court Mosley was aware of his incurable condition.

McNamara said: “He was extremely upset as his quality of life was poor and left him uncomfortable."
