'NO EMOTION'

Mum of ‘murdered’ Logan Mwangi ‘never shed a real tear’ in jail & ‘watched reality TV night she was charged over death’

THE mum of a little boy found dead in a river “never shed a real tear” in jail and binged reality TV on the night she was charged with murder, a fellow lag has claimed.

Angharad Williamson, 30, only turned on the waterworks over little Logan when guards came to check on her, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

Logan Mwangi, five, was found in the River Ogmore in Bridgend, Wales, in July last year with injuries similar to those in a high-speed car crash.

The youngster had suffered more than 56 external injuries, as well as horrific internal wounds – including a large tear to his liver and one to his bowel.

His mother is currently standing trial for murder alongside his stepfather John Cole, and a 14-year-old boy, who cannot legally be identified.

Jurors were told by fellow inmate Joanne Brooks that Williamson showed “no emotion” and sat “eating snacks and laughing” after being charged.

She claimed the mum had staged an elaborate show in front of prison staff, but dropped the facade when they weren’t looking.

Ms Brooks, who was banged up with Williamson at HMP Eastwood Park between September and December last year, said the defendant had “never shed a real tear” about Logan.

She told the court: “Prior to us being put in our rooms that night, Angie had collapsed to the floor with some kind of emotion.”

The witness said she had a clear view into Williamson’s cell from her own cell window and clocked her being checked up on hourly.

She continued: “I could look across to see how she was because she had just been charged with the murder of her child and she was sat on her bed watching Married At First Sight Australia.

“She was basically eating snacks and laughing at what was on the screen.

“From what I could see, if a prison officer was due to come and see her, wailing would begin and it would stop as abruptly as it had started when the prison officer walked away.”

She said Williamson would then get back on the bed and continue with whatever she had been watching.

The former inmate added: “I can categorically say I never saw her shed a real tear and that’s something that has stuck in my mind.

“I’m a mother and a grandmother, (Williamson) didn’t look like someone whose child had been killed weeks before.”

“THE BRIDGEND BABY’S MUM”

Ms Brooks claimed the 30-year-old was singing and skipping around the prison as well as laughing and joking with people.

And even when Williamson – who introduced herself as “the Bridgend baby’s mum” – showed her a montage of photos of Logan, she remained stony-faced.

The witness continued: “There was no emotion, if you were showing someone a picture of your child that has just died you show emotion, and there was just none.”

Ms Brooks described the mum’s “weird, kind of attention-seeking” manner and claimed she bragged about her newfound nickname.

Ms Brooks said: “She told a lot of women in the prison – if she hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known who she was.”

She also told the court Williamson had given her three differing accounts of the day of her son’s death.

The first being that Williamson had tried to get help for him, but she had been prevented from leaving her property by the teenage defendant.

DIFFERING ACCOUNTS

In a second version, Ms Brooks said the 30-year-old told her Logan had fallen and hit his head, so she put him to bed and gave him Calpol.

The witness then claimed Williamson informed her he had “wandered off of his own accord” because the lock on the front door was broken.

In a third telling, she said Williamson claimed she did not know what had happened because she was in her room listening to loud music.

Prosecutors allege that the three defendants were involved in Logan’s murder and then concocted a cover-up of the crime.

They stand accused of perverting the course of justice by moving Logan’s body, removing his clothing, washing bloodstained bed linen and making a false report to police.

Williamson and the youth deny murder and perverting the course of justice. Cole denies murder but admits perverting the course of justice.
