AN ELITE US soldier got into a fistfight with an Islamist rebel in Syria after local fighters chanted "we will slaughter you" at American special forces.

The scrap took place after the soldiers, who were embedded with Turkish forces as part of the 'Euphrates Shield' operation against ISIS, moved unopposed into Al-Rai, near Aleppo, after Islamic State cowards ran away.

The Islamist rebel group Ahrar al-Sharqyah - who are also fighting ISIS - were also able to breach the same area and immediately started chanting, shouting: "You're coming to invade Syria" at the soldiers.

Suddenly, a young militant approached one of the 25 American soldiers and began yelling into his face.

A Syrian media activist told the Sun Online: "The Syrian fighters were being very aggressive, they feel betrayed by America. They were shouting and screaming.

"One very young man with a beard, he must have only been 18 or 19 years old, was shouting in an American's face.

"The American tried to push him away and the young man threw a punch. The next thing I see, they wrestled on the floor and some Americans and Arabs rushed over and pulled them apart."

The US authorised the deployment of up to 300 special-operations forces into Syria last year.

Today a Twitter account linked to the Free Syrian Army, which is backed by America, tweeted: "Syrians don't want western boots on the ground, our man-power is strong enough, just send us real weapons to do the job ourselves."
