Who is John Eastman?
JOHN Eastman served as a lawyer for former President Donald Trump.

Who is John Eastman?
John Eastman, born on April 12, 1960, is a former law professor at Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law where he remained for more than two decades.
He received his Doctor of Law degree from the University of Chicago in 1995.
He began his career as an associate professor at Chapman University before gaining his footing and becoming a professor in 2002.
However, after the 2020 presidential election, Eastman became known as a prominent face standing beside Trump at the January 6 insurrection, and later, as his lawyer claiming the presidential election was stolen.
When did Donald Trump meet John Eastman?
Trump first saw Eastman on a talk show in mid-2019 and within two months he called him for a meeting.
Their first discussion led Eastman to advise Trump on how he could impose limits on birthright citizenship.
The two met again after the November 2020 election to discuss how Trump could stay in power.
Eastman crafted a memo delivering a six-step plan to overturn the election, including throwing out the results in seven states claiming they had competing electors.

The memo's contents were released to in September 2021 and revealed if the seven states were thrown out, Trump would have won with 232 electoral votes to 222.
Eastman and Trump approached former Vice President Mike Pence two days before the January 6 insurrection and told him to overturn the election, to which Pence said it was unconstitutional.
On the day of the insurrection, Eastman stood at the podium in front of a listening crowd and said: "We no longer live in a self-governing republic if we can’t get the answer to this question.
"This is bigger than President Trump! It is the very essence of our republican form of government and it has to be done!”
After the insurrection, Eastman represented Trump in court and continued to claim the election was stolen and said it should be overturned.

Eastman appeared on 60 Minutes on Sunday, November 5, 2023, where he discussed the criminal charges he faces.
