David Cameron engages star literary agent to sell his memoirs as he seeks to beat Tony Blair’s record £4.6m book advance
DAVID Cameron has reportedly hired a star literary agent as he tries to beat Tony Blair’s record £4.6million payday for his memoirs.
The former Prime Minister is said to have engaged Ed Victor, who has secured lucrative deals for Alastair Campbell and David Blunkett in the past.
Mr Cameron is said to now be working on the book as his “main project” as he settles in to life outside politics.
The ex-Tory leader stood down from the House of Commons on Monday after claiming his presence as a backbencher would be a “distraction” to his successor Theresa May.
He was pictured leaving his new home in Chelsea taking his daughter on the school run yesterday as he looks to the next chapter of his career.
“I’ve been characteristically discreet.”
Mr Cameron is thought to have been the subject of a host of offers for the private sector, as one of his predecessors Mr Blair has moved into.
One of them is rumoured to be an offer to take up a boardroom position with Elon Musk, the billionaire co-founder of PayPal and boss of Tesla, the electric car firm.
But despite so far turning not accepting any roles, he does hope to emulate the ex-Labour PM when it comes to his book advance.
Mr Blair signed on for a record £4.6million advance for his memoir (), with the inflated fee largely predicated on the back of high predicted sales in the US.
With nothing like the profile in America Mr Cameron may struggle to reach anywhere near the same figure.
