Scammers posing as Nando’s swiped thousands from First Direct accounts
FRAUDSTERS posing as Nando’s have swiped thousands from First Direct accounts.
Victims raised the alarm after clocking suspicious transactions from the chicken chain despite never ordering there.
It has seen around 2,500 customers hit for payments up to £70, often over several days.
Many had debit cards blocked by First Direct’s fraud team.
Victims flooded online forums and money expert Martin Lewis’s website to alert others to the scam.

One wrote: “I had a text from First Direct yesterday warning me of a possibly fraudulent transaction on my debit card at nandos.co.uk
“It was indeed fraudulent, but they’d missed the ones on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday amounting to £70.
“The card has never left my house and is very rarely used online.”
Another said: “My wife has never used Nando’s but had a payment over £60 on her card. She has changed card and pin numbers.”
First Direct said: “We are aware of some low-value unauthorised transactions appearing on a small number of our customers’ cards.
“We want to reassure impacted customers that they will not be left out of pocket and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Nando’s issued a warning in 2020 after hackers ordered hundreds of pounds of food on customers’ accounts.
The chain said then that criminals used credential stuffing — the automated injection of stolen usernames and passwords into login forms to fraudulently gain access to accounts.
