BORIS Johnson will hail a "moment of pride" for Britain today as he lays out his plans to scrap the last remaining Covid restrictions.

The Prime Minister is expected to announce he's "finally giving people back their freedom" after "one of the most difficult periods in our country's history".

They PM will announce the end to self-isolation rules and say that the vaccination programme, testing, and other new treatments such as anti-viral drugs will keep people safe.

Speaking before his announcement on Monday, the Prime Minister said: "Today will mark a moment of pride after one of the most difficult periods in our country's history as we begin to learn to live with Covid.

"It would not be possible without the efforts of so many - the NHS who delivered the life-saving vaccine rollout at phenomenal speed, our world-leading scientists and experts, and the general public for their commitment to protecting themselves and their loved ones.

"The pandemic is not over but thanks to the incredible vaccine rollout we are now one step closer towards a return to normality and finally giving people back their freedoms while continuing to protect ourselves and others."

The plan will be unveiled in Parliament today, followed by a Downing Street press conference that could be the last of the pandemic, The Times reports.

Under the new Living with Covid plan, twice-weekly testing for kids in schools is expected to end.

Daily Covid cases are the lowest for six months, with 25,696 positive tests yesterday and 74 deaths.

Mr Johnson said the latest data meant it was time for the UK to shift the balance away from "state mandation" and towards "personal responsibility".

In comments made while in Munich on Saturday, he said it was "important that people should feel confident again" and that he wanted to "see our country really getting back on its feet" in the aftermath of the pandemic.

But Mr. Johnson warned the country would not hesitate to act if Covid continued to rise.

He said: "I want to make sure that we have capability to spot stuff and to snap back up as fast as we need to."

Under the new plans, millions of elderly and vulnerable could be offered six-monthly top-up jabs.

Ministers have already secured 114million vaccine doses for the next two years.
