PE teacher from school featured in TV series Educating Cardiff ‘raped woman at karaoke party’
Neilson Smith met the drunken woman in a nightclub where other staff from the Channel 4 series had been holding their Christmas party
A TV star teacher raped a young woman after a karaoke party for staff at the school in the hit series Educating Cardiff, a court heard today.
Neilson Smith, 41, met the drunken woman in a nightclub where other staff from the Channel 4 series had been holding their Christmas party.
A court heard he offered to take her home in a taxi from the karaoke bar - but then allegedly raped her in her own bed while she was "comatose".
Millions watched the eight-part series on the life at troubled Willows High School in Cardiff - the latest in the TV series following Educating Yorkshire, Essex and the EastEnd.
But a court heard that just weeks after the series ended in October, Neilson went to their Christmas party in fashionable bar Tiger Tiger.
Prosecutor Matthew Cobbe said Neilson met the woman in the same bar after she had been drinking with other friends for several hours.

Welsh language and PE teacher Neilson was later arrested when the woman complained to police.
He denied having sex with her unconscious - and later said she had instigated the sex after he took her home on December 4.
Mr Cobbe said: "We reject his account of what happened that night. She was comatose when he raped her.
Neilson, of Pontypridd, South Wales, denies rape. The trial continues.
