YOU CAN'T TREE SERIOUS

Harvester restaurant mocked for putting up Christmas tree in September

A Christmas tree, complete with decorations, was pictured in the Gloucester branch next to an arrangement of presents

THE hottest September day for 50 years is on the horizon, but one branch of Harvester is jumping ahead to winter with its Christmas tree already up.

Although the festive season seems a world away, the chain restaurant has decided to get people thinking about it now.

A sign next to the tree says "IT'S CHRISTMAS!", and includes an offer of a free bottle of Prosecco if you book before October 31.

Although Christmas is 102 days away, other restaurants and shops have begun to promote their Christmas items and offers.

Gobsmacked shoppers posted pics on social media after spotting the mince pies on sale at a branch of Asda in Kent.

Mum-of-three Julie Delange, 37, from Canterbury, said: “I couldn’t believe it – I saw Christmas mince pies on sale in Asda but the date on the box was two months before Christmas.

“I thought it was a misprint! But when I checked the other boxes on the shelf they had the same date – October 26th 2016.

“The stores are obviously out to cash in on Christmas as soon as they can.

“But who on earth would buy Christmas mince pies in September which go off before the end of October?”
