Students praised by police after trying to save teenager knifed close to their college

The students rushed out of class when they saw the victim collapse outside their building.

Officers said he had been stabbed nearby before staggering towards Milton Keynes College, in Bucks.

But, despite their best efforts, he tragically later died in hospital.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “Healthcare students and a member of staff from the college, who were in a class overlooking it, made their way outside and provided immediate first aid, until emergency services arrived.

“We would like to publicly commend the courage and selflessness that they have demonstrated in these tragic circumstances. Students are receiving specialist support.”

The college said staff and students were “devastated” that the victim had died. He was thought to be a pupil at nearby Walton High School.

Student Chloe Trew, 19, added: “It’s very scary. Staff and students were doing first aid on the boy, trying to save his life. What happened is shocking and I feel so sorry for his poor family.”

A section 60 order is now in place giving officers extra stop and search powers.

The police said: “We are carrying out additional patrols. We do not believe there is any threat to the wider community.”

Detectives said they were “following several significant lines of inquiry”.

Supt Marc Tarbit said: “I am saddened to see another murder in Milton Keynes as a result of a knife and I will do all I can to take these weapons off our streets.”

An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder and was last night in custody.

Detectives appealed to anyone with information to contact them urgently.
