The US State Department is expected to announce on Saturday that American staff at the Kiev embassy will be required to leave the country.

Emergency diplomatic efforts are underway with Biden expected to discuss the crisis with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone on Saturday.

The US previously told families of embassy workers to leave amid the feared Russian invasion and German newspaper has reported that the invasion may happen as soon as Wednesday.

Some US diplomats may be relocated to the far west of Ukraine, near the border of NATO ally Poland, so that the US can keep a diplomatic presence in the country, the reported.

Biden urged Americans to leave Ukraine within the next 48 hours amid the "very distinct possibility" that Russia attacks the country.

“If you stay, you are assuming risk with no guarantee that there will be any other opportunity to leave, and no prospect of a US military evacuation in the event of a Russian invasion,” national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Friday.

Sullivan said an attack would likely begin with aerial bombing and missile strikes, which would shut down transportation by air, rail, and roads.

TROOPS HEAD TO UKRAINE

The Pentagon said it would send 3,000 combat troops from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to Poland to join 1,700 troops assembling there.

The move is a demonstration of America's commitment to NATO allies that are worried at the prospect of Russia invading Ukraine, AP reported.

Russia has been deploying military troops to the Ukraine border and Biden said he expects Putin to give the go-ahead to attack Ukraine in the coming days.

Biden added that the US military wouldn't enter a war in Ukraine but promised economic sanctions for an invasion by Russia.

NUCLEAR WAR FEARS

The Sun exclusively reported how Russia sparked nuclear war fears earlier this week as footage revealed a terrifying “atomic cannon” within striking distance of embattled Ukraine.

A battery of self-propelled guns capable of firing nuclear shells were captured on video in the Russian town of Vesela Lopan, Bolgorod, located 10 miles from the Ukrainian border.

Social media users posted videos showing the huge 2S7 Pion guns, known as the “Soviet atomic cannon,” within range of the Ukraine's second city Kharkiv.

'SOVIAT ATOMIC CANNON'

The fearsome weapon, one of the most powerful artillery weapons ever built, can carry up to four 203 mm nuclear shells capable of decimating huge areas.

Their deployment came as Putin warned nuclear war could erupt if Ukraine joins NATO and accused the West of “complete disregard for our concerns” as peace talks failed.

Meanwhile, Russia’s spy chief claimed preparations for war are “in full swing,” and that Ukraine was about to trigger an attack backed by the West.

Spy chief Sergei Naryshkin, who leads the equivalent of the CIA and MI6, warned the “existence of humanity” was at stake.
