PE teacher, 23, ‘had sex with pupil, 18, after “shimmying up and down him” on school prom dancefloor’

A PE teacher was seen shimmying up and down a pupil at prom hours before she allegedly had sex with him, a hearing heard.

Melissa Tweedie, 27, was also dressed inappropriately while being "in the thick of it" with the 18-year-old, deputy head Aileen Sangster, 59, said.

She also claimed the PE teacher, accused of bedding the pupil after prom in June 2017, had her hands on this waist and hugged him at one point.

Ms Sangster added: "I noticed Miss Tweedie due to the outfit she was wearing.

"It was inappropriate, I put this down to inexperience.

"After the meal she had a drink in her hand every time I saw her. She said some odd things but nothing offensive.

"She said 'I feel like this is my prom.' She was talking about her boys, her football boys.

"I later found out that she had never taught any of the boys on the football team."

She said she also saw Melissa standing with the pupil licking the back of their hands and taking a shot.

The hearing earlier heard that Tweedie, then 23, was reported by an alarmed student after seeing them in a hotel room.

Former headteacher David Nicholls drove to the Premier Inn to find Melissa Tweedie, then 23, and was met by six pupils who were convinced she was in a room with the lad.

He eventually reached Miss Tweedie over the phone after getting to the hotel in Glasgow, when she insisted she was at home and failed to send her location when requested.

But the next day the pupil met Mr Nicholls at Glennifer High School in Paisley, Renfrewshire, and said they had sex.

Miss Tweedie is alleged to have partied with pupils at their school prom at SWG3 nightclub in Glasgow before going back with them to the hotel in June 2017.

Mr Nicholls told the panel: “She seemed absolutely fine and compos mentis at SWG3.

“I later found out from senior staff that they thought she was getting over familiar with a certain senior student.

“At 1.45am, one of the senior boys phoned me.

“The boy who phoned seemed alarmed and said that Miss Tweedie was in the hotel.

“He seemed quite anxious.

“When I got into the foyer I found six pupils, including the Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl, they seemed anxious and said that a member of staff was in the hotel.

“Hotel staff asked the age of the people involved and when they ascertained that they were of legal age they said it was not their problem."

He said that she broke down in tears when she was told she was suspended, pending investigation.

Lindsay Thomson, current principal teacher of PE at the school, claimed Tweedie said she felt like she was "trying to do something good and it's gone wrong".

She added: "She kept telling me she was making sure the pupils got there OK.

"She said she heard something about drugs and wanted to make sure that everyone was OK."

Tweedie allegedly told Ms Thomson the next say: "I felt like I was trying to do something good and it's gone wrong."

Ms Thomson also claimed Tweedie was sharing wine with pupils at the table during prom, adding: "I did not think it was appropriate to be drinking on a school night."

Miss Tweedie, who now lives in Dubai working as a yoga instructor, faces being struck off the register by the General Teaching Council for Scotland following the allegations.

Police Scotland were alerted to the incident and investigated it at the time.
