How much do bus drivers get paid?

However, this varies according to the company your work for and the location you're in.
Salaries may increase over time as you earn more experience and take on new roles which carry more responsibility.
The highest-paying cities for bus drivers in the UK are:
- London - an average of £31, 326 a year
- Bristol - an average of £25,538 a year
- Bolton - an average of £24,672 a year
- Leicester - an average of £23,815 a year
- Glasgow - an average of £23,108 a year
- Edinburgh - an average of £22,423 a year
- Walsall - an average of £21,982 a year
- Sheffield - an average of £21,695 a year
- Leeds - an average of £21,326 a year
According to the Government website, salaries go up to £34,000 for experienced drivers while the entry-level pay would start at £18,000.
Stagecoach says if you’re already a qualified Passenger Carrying Vehicle driver, you’ll start on a higher salary that reflects your years on the road.
And if you have five years’ employment with another bus operator, you could join for a top rate with a valid Licence.

How do I become a bus driver?
You'll need a full driver's licence, with at least one year's UK driving experience.
And you might need to be prepared to work varying shift patterns, which include rostered weekends and bank holidays.
An aspiring bus driver would also have to get a PCV licence.
For this, you'll have to do a course that can cost between £1,000 and £3,000 depending on whether you choose an agency or a PCV training school.
To ensure you get the right training course for you, research thoroughly and compare like with like.
Applicants will also have to watch out that they've been careful on the roads, as people with six points or more on their licence may not be eligible.
You can also try getting yourself an apprenticeship.
You'll need at least a category B licence to start your training - which is a car driving licence.
The apprenticeship normally lasts a year and you'll be learning in the workplace while also off-the-job study.
